Camp 911 in Delta County
August 3 @ 9:00 am - August 4 @ 5:00 pm
Guardian Flight, AirMedCare Network along with OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group, Bay College and a host of emergency and first response agencies are excited to announce the launch of Camp 911 in Delta County.
Camp 911 offers an interactive introduction to emergency medical services. It is open to Delta County youth entering or leaving sixth grade. At Camp 911, youth will learn how to prevent common traffic and home injuries as well as give simple, life-saving emergency care to injured victims. In addition, there will be first-hand opportunities to learn about careers in EMS, emergency nursing and public safety through interaction with many different agency representatives as well as hands-on fun and learning throughout the event.
Camp 911 is a day camp that will be held August 3 – 4 at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba. The event is free with attendance limited to 80 participants. Registration opens on June 1 at https://camp911delta.eventbrite.com and will fill on a first-come, first-served basis.
Lunch, snacks, and beverages will be provided. In addition to meals and the overall experience, each camper will also receive a bystander care kit, Camp 911 t-shirt, emergency information packet and a certificate of completion.
Many local agencies have already committed their support for the event; to date this includes: Delta County Central Dispatch, Delta County Sheriff Department, Delta County Search & Rescue, Escanaba Public Safety, Gladstone Public Safety, and the Michigan State Police, along with local medical educators and firefighting units, but there is room for more. Support and assistance to help underwrite the cost of the event, donate materials or meals through in-kind commitments or monetary donations are welcome. We are also in need of additional volunteers to help staff the 2-day event. If you are interested in helping, please call Carrie Bartel-Petrin at 906-241-3855 or email Carrie.Bartel-Petrin@gmr.net.
