 How will businesses remain accessible during each phase?

Access to businesses will be maintained with short interruptions at specified times during the project.

 

 Will detours and traffic adjustments be communicated in advance?

Yes:

  • These will be announced by press releases to local radio, print and television outlets.
  • MDOT will also create a project brochure for distribution locally.
  • We will maintain a major project page on our website with updated information.
  • Project details and updates will be posted on MDOT social media outlets:

  • Updates will be posted on MDOT’s online Mi Drive Map: www.Michigan.gov/drive

 

How will delivery and service vehicles access businesses within the project area?

Access to businesses will be maintained.  Delivery and services will be accommodated during construction.

 

Will there be any anticipated utility interruptions?

Disruptions to utility services will be minimal and communicated in advanced.

Project Details:

Route: US-2

Location: North 30th Street to Danforth Road, Escanaba

  • Phase 1: From North 30th Street to 9th Avenue
  • Phase 2: From 9th Avenue to Danforth Road (includes the replacement of the Canadian National (CN) Railroad Bridge)

Scope of Work:

  • Full pavement removal and replacement
  • New Storm Sewer and municipal utilities
  • New subbase layer, aggregate base layer, and hot mixed asphalt layers
  • Replacing Canadian National (CN) railroad bridge with longer span

Letting Dates:

  • Phase 1: October 2026
  • Phase 2: October 2027

Construction Dates:

  • Phase 1: 2027 – 2028
  • Phase 2: 2028 – 2029

Construction Cost: Approximately $38 million (includes Approximately $4.2 million in local funds)
